Privacy Policy
This policy describes how the Femininity app actually handles your data today. We recommend it is reviewed by a qualified legal professional before it is relied on for a specific jurisdiction.
The short version
- Your cycle and health logs are stored on your device and work offline.
- Cloud backup, sync and the community are optional and only used if you create an account.
- We never sell your data and never use it for advertising.
- The health chat gives general educational information based on your cycle and does not send your questions to any third-party AI service.
- Analytics are off by default — you choose whether to turn them on.
- You can delete your local data, your cloud data, or your whole account at any time.
1. Who we are
Femininity ("the app", "we", "us") is a period, cycle, fertility and pregnancy tracking app for Android and iOS. The app is provided by Amin Atitallah, an individual developer based in France, who acts as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
You can reach us at [email protected].
2. Data we collect
We only collect what the features you use require. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:
- Health & cycle data you enter. Period dates and flow, cycle and ovulation information, symptoms, moods, activities, basal body temperature, weight, pregnancy and postpartum status, and any notes you write. This is special-category health data and receives extra protection under the GDPR.
- Account data (optional). If you create an account to back up or sync, we process your email address and an authentication identifier from your chosen sign-in method (email & password, Google, or Apple).
- Community data (optional). If you use the community, we process the pseudonym you choose and the posts, comments and likes you create.
- Health chat. The in-app health chat provides general educational information based on your cycle, prepared within the app. It does not currently send your questions or data to any third-party AI service (see section 6).
- Diagnostics & crash reports. If the app crashes, technical diagnostic information is collected to help us fix problems.
- Usage analytics (only if you opt in). Analytics are turned off by default. If you enable them in Settings, we collect anonymous usage events such as screen views to understand how features are used.
- Device permissions. With your permission, the app schedules local notifications (reminders). These reminders are generated on your device.
3. Legal bases (GDPR)
- Your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)) for processing your health and cycle data, and for optional analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) to provide the account, backup, sync and community features you request.
- Our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the app secure and stable, including crash diagnostics and community moderation.
- Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) where we must retain or disclose data to comply with the law.
4. How we use your data
- To calculate cycle, period and fertility predictions and show your insights and statistics.
- To store your data on your device and, if you enable it, to back it up and sync it across your devices.
- To provide general educational information in the health chat.
- To operate the community and keep it safe (moderation, reports, blocking, profanity filtering).
- To send the local reminders you switch on.
- To diagnose crashes and, only with your opt-in, to understand feature usage.
5. Where your data is stored & who processes it
Data you log is stored locally on your device by default and does not leave it unless you enable an online feature. When you use online features, the following processors act on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). We use Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Cloud Firestore to store your synced cycle data, preferences and community content when you enable them, and Firebase Crashlytics for crash diagnostics. Analytics via Firebase are only active if you opt in.
These providers may process data on servers outside your country, including outside the EU/EEA. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the providers' Standard Contractual Clauses and safeguards. Data in transit is encrypted with TLS.
6. Health chat
The in-app health chat provides general health education only — it is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a substitute for a qualified healthcare professional, and it must not be used for emergencies. It provides information based on your cycle, prepared within the app, and does not currently send your questions or data to any third-party AI service. If we introduce an AI provider in the future, we will update this policy before enabling it.
7. Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell your personal or health data, and we do not use it for advertising. We share data only with the processors listed above, and only as needed to run the app. In the community, other users see your pseudonym and the content you post — never your real name or email. We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
8. Data retention
Local data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you use an account, your synced and account data are kept for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, or delete your cloud data from within the app, that data is removed. From the app you can separately delete your local data, your cloud data, or your entire account.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- erase your data ("right to be forgotten");
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
You can exercise most of these directly in the app (edit and delete your data), or by emailing us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority — in France, the CNIL.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). On-device preferences are protected by the operating system's secure storage, and you can enable a biometric lock (Face ID / fingerprint) to protect access to the app. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
11. Children
Femininity is intended for users aged 13 and over. If you are under 16, you may only use the app with the consent and involvement of a parent or legal guardian, who should review this policy with you. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
13. Contact
